It really didn't grab my attention and I remember being totally confused by all the people and lack of dialogue tags. I've never read any of his other stuff - I feel so unAustralian right now haha! In fact, I liked it enough to read the next book... though I haven't read any more in this series (which is telling!)

I do completely agree that the romance in the first book seemed entirely unneccessary and out of nowhere. I wonder if I would feel the same about it now that I've been reading so much great YA? I cracked up at the Bear Grylls survival handbook line. I don't think any of them have to drink their own urine. I hope you continue on with the series! (I didn't like the movie very much. Sorry, commenter above me.)

-MaggieYA Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08386116734093643947noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6914067450350420728.post-76982260977831018682013-09-09T20:57:07.937+01:002013-09-09T20:57:07.937+01:00A good review, which I sort of agree with even tho...A good review, which I sort of agree with even though I love the books (the first 3 anyway).
The film is worth a couple of hours of anybody's time, if you like that sort of thing.

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16348882471577921960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6914067450350420728.post-83494109200837560752013-09-09T14:42:55.594+01:002013-09-09T14:42:55.594+01:00Ok, maybe I'll give the other books a go. It's kind of "safe" and restrained in a way the subsequent novels - where the tone is more apocalyptic and melancholic, the romance is a lot less chaste, and action is bloodier and more exhausting (but in a good way) - aren't.
